This is best eaten while it is still warm as it has a tendency to get kind of rubbery after it is cool or the next day. Feel free to reduce the oil by a tablespoon as others have done and to change up the vanilla extract for some other flavour. Ingredients: 4 tbsp flour 4 tbsp sugar 2 tbsp cocoa 1 egg 3 tbsp milk 3 tbsp oil 3 tbsp chocolate chips (optional) small splash vanilla micro wave safe mug (large coffee mug) Add dry ingredients to mug, mix well Add the egg, milk, oil and vanilla and mix well Add chocolate chips and stir. Cook in microwave at 1000watts for 3 minutes (I used 3 minutes on high setting and it was fine) Allow to cool a bit and tip out of mug onto plate, or eat in the mug! It is called the most dangerous chocolate cake because you can have chocolate cake anytime day or night within 5 minutes. **note: It took me 4:25 to mix and pour and put in microwave and 3 minutes to cook. Still darn fast for chocolate cake.

How to keep my cake from crumbling! HELP???!!!?
I’m baking my wedding cake and I’m very good with fondant and decorating but when it comes to the cake I have a problem! When I cut into it the cake crumbles and falls apart! I’m trying a new recipe for marshmellow fondant and am going to see if it cuts easier and helps with the crumbling.
Also I’ve been using box cake mix if that matters. This afternoon my friend and I are getting together to make a practice cake!
Please any advice on making my cake stick together when I cut it? Thanks!

Frannie answers:
I used to be very in to cake decorating especially working with fondant and let me tell you the best recipe you could possibly use is in the confetti cake book by Elisa Strauss I think you can probably look it up online if you can’t find it tell me and I can edit my answer and give it to you just add a detail to your answer to let me know btw the glycerin can be bought at like health food stores or places like whole foods its usually in the beauty section. I highly recommend you use a stand mixer if you don’t have one see if you can borrow one from somebody believe me before I had mine I once had a cake deadline and when I went to make my fondant I had so much of it to do I couldn’t move my wrists without screaming in pain after all the constant kneading it was HORRIBLE! So especially for a wedding cake use a stand mixer it will make your fondant smoother and a much better quality and don’t use one with two separate mixer things you need one with a paddle like in the kitchenaid mixers and if you are new to cake decorating or don’t have that much time to experiment with the marshmallow fondant before your wedding DO NOT do it personally I don’t really like the taste of it and it dries out so much easier than normal fondant also I find it to be gummier too. I personally have several food allergies so I could not order or buy my fondant and had to make everything from scratch but if you are going to buy, buy satin ice because I have a friend who also is a cake decorator and she has tried so many different kinds and satin ice is the best and also everyone on the blogs and youtube love satin ice and use it all the time. And as for cutting the cake if you are using a triangular spatula try cutting into the cake with the tip first and if you are using a straight spatula go in tip first as well. Good Luck with your cake and everything.

what is a good healthy frosting recipe?
my boyfriend is on a health kick and for his birthday I want to make him a healthy cake. I’ve already got a recipe for the cake its self but now I’m stuck on frosting. I ‘d rather not use cool whip but if someone comes up with a cool whip one that taste good i wouldn’t be 100% opposed

Frannie answers:
Light Vanilla Frosting
This frosting works well for cupcakes, cakes, or cookies.
Ingredients:
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup Splenda® sweetener or other sugar alternative for baking
2 tablespoons less-fat margarine with added plant sterols (such as Take Control brand)
1 1/2 teaspoons fat-free half-and-half, whole milk, or low-fat milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
About 8 drops food coloring (for colored frosting)
Preparation:
Add powdered sugar, Splenda®, margarine, milk and vanilla to a small mixing bowl and beat on medium speed to blend until smooth. This will take a few minutes, because the Splenda® takes a while to dissolve.
Add food coloring, if desired. About 8 drops will do.
Frost your goodies.

Helen asks…
Do I need to grease a bunt pan if the recipe doesn’t say to or not?
It’s for a wine cake, I’m making. Should I spray non stick spray on it, or something. Or should it come out easy after it’s done baking? help!

Frannie answers:
Spray it with pam and dust it lightly with flour..Good Luck and Merry Christmas!!!

Nancy asks…
Cookie made out of cake with a stick that looks like a sucker?
I’m looking for a recipe of cookies that are made out of cake. They have a stick on them so they look like suckers. Just a regular cake mix made like the box says wont work because the cake is to soft. I had these many years ago when I was a child at school for someones birthday party. Now I am wanting to make them for my sons school birthday party this Wed. I hope someone out there can help me with this. Thanks bunches!!
I dont believe cake pops are what I’m looking for. Before I asked this question I search cake popsicles, cake cookie on a stick, cake pops (which brought up cake on a stick in the shape of a ball). What I am talking about looks like those big flat suckers you buy at a candy store.

Frannie answers:
Mix the cake mix with a stick of butter and an egg and drop onto a cookie sheet. Put the stick in and flatten it gently. Bake (usually at 345 degrees F) until done (look for them to be firm, not hard!) Don’t have exact times as I usually wing it. If the dough seems a little stiff, add a teaspoon of water when you mix. Sometimes the store brand cake mixes will do that.

Susan asks…
I need a good buttercream fondant recipe – please help?
I am making a cake which i will cover with marshmallow fondant icing.
I need to make a buttercream fondant to spread on the sponge so the marshmallow fondant sticks. Does anyone know a good recipe for this?

Frannie answers:
For me the buttercream fondant is not suitable for sticking roll fondant, you can use jam, syrup even plain boiled cool water brush on the cake an lay the roll fondant on it it will stick well. Buttercream fondant
1 cup light corn syrup, 1 cup shortening, 1 tsp. Salt, 1 tsp. Flavor, about 8-9 cups of icing sugar, mix corn syrup, shortening, salt and flavor, mix well add icing sugar little by little knead until smooth. Buttercream fondant is good for cup cakes or petit four. Good luck

Laura asks…
How do I make Mom’s Apple Buckle?
Mom is 94 years old and has forgotten how she made the apple buckle we all grew-up on. All of my brothers and sisters have lost the recipe or are dead. I tried to re-create the recipe last night. The flavor is right, but the texture was a little too similar to a crumbly cake. Mom’s recipe was deep-dish in a baking pan with a crispy top and a batter that became almost bread-like. There was no brown sugar topping such as on many buckles. I do not know where she learned how to make it. She never referred to a recipe, so it was probably from my Grandma on the farm in Danish southwestern Wisconsin. Mom and Dad were also a leaders in PEO, 4-H, Boy Scouts, as well as Methodist and Lutheran churches, so the recipe may originate from those sources as well.
My experimental recipe:
1 stick melted butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
0.5 c. milk
2 t. vanilla
1 t. cinnamon
I blended-in the dry ingredients:
1.5 c. flour
1 t. baking powder
4 sliced MacIntosh apples
I baked for 1-1.5 hours at 350° to golden brown.
Which ingredient should I increase slightly to make my apple dessert a little more bread-like and less crumbly and cake-like in texture?
Sugar Pie ~ you are correct that buckle and cobbler are close relatives ~ I never thought of butter beneath batter ~ I am sure that Mom did not make dessert in that manner ~ I think that I am going to try another half-cup of flour next time to stiffen the batter ~ I may have created more of a cake with all of that butter ~ also, Mom is an egg fanatic who always doubled the eggs in recipes ~ furthermore, Mom is a buttermilk fanatic, also may have used something like a concentrated canned milk in recipes, so that may have made a difference in the texture. Quite a mystery. I know that I am close. My result looked almost identical to Mom’s apple dessert. The top was perfect, a little like a sugary bread crust instead of a cake. I do not believe these are normally yeast breads, although her cinnamon rolls were also amazing.
Should I cut back on the butter? Increase the flour? Increase the milk? Double the eggs?
What makes a cake more bread-like in texture? Does anyone understand the chemistry of cooking?
I did more research and came up with a note on cake structure. I will experiment further:
When baking cake mixes at high altitudes, follow altitude adjustments given on the box. Adjustments usually strengthen cells of the cake with addition of all-purpose flour, egg yolk, or liquid.
I think that I refined the recipe by adding more flour, milk, and baking powder. I reduced the fat and replaced the butter with olive oil to minimize saturated fat. I baked my new recipe, which turned-out well and satisfied my nieces and nephews who finished it off in a few minutes.
Ingredients:
0.25 c. Olive Oil
2 T. Wisconsin Butter (For Greasing Ovenware)
1 c. Wisconsin Milk
1 c. Sugar
2 Eggs
2 t. Vanilla Extract
0.5 t. Cinnamon
2 t. Baking Powder
2 c. Flour
6 MacIntosh Apples
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350°F while stirring together olive oil, milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla, and cinnamon. Gradually add flour and baking powder until a flowing batter develops, similar to pancake batter.
Slice apples and place in two butter-coated Pyrex dishes, about seven-inch by four-inch, or one deep glass or ceramic baking dish. Go ahead and sneak a few slices of apple during the coring process. Mom always did. Pour buckle batter over the apples. Apple Buckle derives its na

Recipes For Cake Pops

Sandra asks…
How to make vegan biscuits?
I recently discovered a recipe for simply a cake mix using soda pop to replace the eggs and other things that are added, and made the best cake I have ever had, and completely vegan too! I was wondering if anyone would know if this same method would work for making biscuits with Bisquick (which PETA says is vegan under its I Can’t Believe its Vegan page.) using maybe a small amount of club soda or something similar to make them moist and fluffy? Thanks.
Oh yum that sounds great! That would go well with the pot of soup I just made….

Frannie answers:
Most from-scratch biscuit batters don’t have eggs in them, so just swap out the milk for soy or rice milk and use vegan butter in the recipe. If you want them moist and fluffy add extra baking powder and a little soy yogurt.
If you want a sweet biscuit, add some raisins.

In health I have to cook something and bring it in to class. I don’t really want to make brownies or cake etc.. Because everybody else is going to think to do that. So what should I do. Please include recipe. I want something that has fruit in it but it doesn’t have to. It could also be as simple as popping a bag of popcorn.

help with my narrative essay?
OKAY SO THIS IS MY ESSAY I NEED BRUTAL TRUTH HERE PLEASE………….I FEEL THAT MY INTO IS VERY POOR AND MY CONCLUSION IS INCOMPLETE……….ANY TIPS/ HELP/ADVICE OR IDES U CAN GIVE WOULD BE GREAT THANKS XOXO
As long as I can remember I have took much pleasure from baking. In my early childhood I found it an exciting treat, to this day it still stirs that emotion in me. In this narrative essay I highlight my reasons to why it continues to be a big part of my life.
My first memories of baking is with my Nana pops, my maternal grandmother, who I seem to remember was always in the kitchen. An uncomplicated woman, she was in every sense the ‘perfect’ housewife, who favoured to use traditional tools for the job. Every Saturday she would get out her fantastic, old fashioned, emerald green scales. As a young girl I would spend hours playing with the weights, delighting in being allowed to touch something so grown up. I was very fortunate to have two grandmothers who loved to bake, as is common with alot of their generation, and was often indulged in this glorious hobby.
Baking invokes such sweet memories for me and this is something I am keen to pass onto my son and godchildren. I enjoy nothing more than reaching for my nana’s old scales and baking with the children on a weekend. It is such a joy to see the delight in a child’s face when they taste their freshly baked bread or sweet chocolate cakes. My sons favourite is our chocolate crispy cakes, my own secret recipe, which we will make on many a night and eat in front of the fire while reading fairy tales.
I find baked goods are a gift that most people will enjoy and appreciate. I have found that children love to bake for adult family members, my son certainly does, and feel it is a gift that is solely from them. I often like to make friends and family members a birthday cake relevant to their interests. In the past I have made a range of cakes from a fantastic tardis for 30 to a spectacular fairytale castle. However I do not limit my baking to special occasions and will often make cakes and fresh bread when I have visitors. I feel there is no greater smell, than that of freshly baked food.
Like everyone I have my favourite recipes.I adore chocolate fudge cake, I must admit this is the one cake that will never last long in my house, but it proves very detrimental to my waste line. I delight in the smell of freshly baked bread, the mere thought makes my mouth water. I always enjoy freshly baked produce a lot more than mere shop bought items, maybe this is because the anticipation of the baking always seems to make it taste that much sweeter.
Although I adore baking and find it a very tranquil hobby I must admit it does suffer from one huge draw back, the washing up. I detest washing up, I find it bore some, irritating, tiring, in general a horrid chore. I vow to myself that when funds allow I will purchase a dish washer and know when that time comes that my house will always have a smell that invokes such stronger, idyllic childhood memories.
Baking truly is a part of me and has always been. It reminds me of simpler happy times, of a nana sadly gone and most of all stirring memories of times gone by. I feel that baking is a major part of my family and hope that when my son grows it will be a passion that he will pass on to his own children.
hiya thanks for the answers so far, and none happen to be too brutal i perfer honesty, it is a very rough 1st go and i have never written an essay b4. Frannie answers:
I have took much pleasure from baking. (Taken! Get your tenses right). …To this day it still stirs that emotion in me. (A clumsy pun which I don’t believe you intended). My first memories of baking is with my Nana pops (both capitals or neither). …She was in every sense the ‘perfect’ housewife, who favoured {to use – not needed} traditional tools for the job. (She’s the perfect housewife because she’s good in the kitchen? I take exception to this). … As a young girl … Delighting in being allowed to touch something so grown up. I was very fortunate to have two grandmothers who loved to bake, as is common with alot of their generation, and was often indulged in this glorious hobby. (Why did you think they were grown up? A lot is two words. The last sentence is confusing – it could read that your grandmothers were indulged, not you.) Baking invokes such sweet memories (another dodgy pun) for me and this is something I am keen to pass onto my son and godchildren. I enjoy nothing more than reaching for my nana’s (now no capitals! Consistency!) … My sons (possessive apostrophe required) … Favourite is our chocolate crispy cakes, my own secret recipe… (In what way is it special – this is the most basic recipe there is!) I find baked goods are a gift that most people will enjoy and appreciate. I have found (I find… I have found… Clumsy tense usage) … That children love to bake for adult family members, my son certainly does, and feel it is a gift that is solely from them. (You mean personal). I often like to make (bake, surely?) friends and family members a birthday cake relevant to their interests. … I have made a range of cakes from a fantastic tardis (it’s an acronym, so capitals please) … For 30, to a spectacular fairytale castle. However … Will often make (bake) cakes and fresh bread when I have visitors.
Like everyone … It proves very detrimental to my waste line. (It’s either detrimental or not. It can’t be any more than detrimental, therefore the “very” is not required – it’s like saying “very extremely so” – though you could say “most detrimental”, i.e. This does more harm than anything else).
… The anticipation of the baking always seems to make it taste that much sweeter. (Your bread tastes sweet – is it brioche? Do you mean better? Or is this another terrible pun? Or as you would probably say, a terrible ‘bun’?)
… I detest washing up, I find it bore some (what? I think you mean “a bore”), irritating, tiring, in general a horrid chore (you’ve started rhyming now!).
I vow to myself that when funds allow I will purchase a dish washer and know when that time comes that my house will always have a smell that invokes such stronger, idyllic childhood memories. (What? Buying a dishwasher will make your house smell like stronger, idyllic childhood memories?).
Baking truly is a part of me (you’re made of ginger bread?) …and has always been. It reminds me of simpler happy times, of a nana (no caps again) sadly gone (shopping? This doesn’t really say what it means, does it?) and most of all stirring memories (another terrible pun) of times gone by (except you’ve just spent most of the essay explaining how you bake now – so what’s changed? Maybe you need to use the word “nostalgia” at some point?).
I feel that baking is a major part of my family and hope that when my son grows (up, presumably? Or gets fat eating all the bread and cakes?) …it will be a passion that he will pass on to his own children. (You’ve said this already – you may need to restructure the earlier mention here if you want this to be your ending).
(The essay doesn’t convey much information, but it manages to not convey much information over quite a few words – did you have a word count requirement?)
Well, you asked me to be honest. You may well speak like this in real life, but you can’t expect people to read with your voice in their head.

I love to cook, so recipes, be they hard and take a week to do, or really easy and simple, I don’t mind haha

Frannie answers:
Apple sauce with cinnamon, and/or mashed potatoes with gravy go awesome with pork chops.
As far as junk food/candy goes, I can suggest chips and cheese–Melt any type of cheese you want (block, shredded, anything really) and dip tortilla chips in it. What about those things, I think they’re called Popables? Got ‘em a few years ago (yeah, that’s how long it’s been since I’ve eaten candy lol) so I”m not sure if they still make ‘em. But they had ‘em in Reeses Pieces, and a few other varieties. Combos were also good. Cool Ranch Doritos were good ’til I over did it on ‘em, haha.
My favorite dip lately is I take salsa and put a can of black beans in it–Dip chips into it, and it’s so filling it’s almost a meal!
Or, what about guacamole? Tons of recipes online for it.
Favorite movie: The Fountain is right up there. As are Imaginary Heroes, The Butterfly Effect, The Triplets of Belleville, and American Beauty. Gave ya a few ’cause I don’t know what you guys are in to.

Frannie answers:
Cute idea! This is what i did for my 10th birthday i think! What we did was we went to the dollar store and bought about 30 hula skirts! And each friend got one but we had about 10 left over so we just cut the elastic and made it into a table skirt! And OMG those cakes are just so priceless! The sandal one is sooo cute but the hula one i just SWOONED over! So gorgeous but it looks like a LOT of work! ![]()
the games sound perfect for 9 year olds and i think that they will have a lot of fun! And for party favors also include maybe a lei or something and you can fill the tiki cup (if you dont want it anymore) with candy and then put it in the loot bag!
another fun activity i did was we decorated sandals! We just bought some at the dollarstore and colored them haha it gave us something to do!
Anyways good luck and i hope that your daughter has a great 9th birthday party! And from the looks of it i think she will!

Betty asks…
I feel like I’m becoming one of those “boring” carter moms..?
I’m talking about the ones who shop at Carters.. Old navy.. baby gap.. I spend my time getting excited about little recipes.
I used to be cool.
I found out this morning when I looked in the mirror and found myself wearing a cardigan with my hair in a ponytail, with my nose stud missing. Right before I logged on to a Christian mommy forum.
The first thing that popped into my head was. “omg. I looked up frugal recipes yesterday. I decided I wanted to decorate a cake by hand for fun. and the other day, and I was window shopping at gymboree while looking at the magazine babytalk.
Two years ago, I would have been listening to blue october, making hemp chokers, and shopping for clothes at soul flower. Do you ever feel like as a parent you’ve lost yourself in societys mumbo jumbo?
The other day I got irritated with a telemarketer and I said “I’m getting tired of these beaches and their sheets.” And there were no kids around.

Frannie answers:
Oh yes. I prowl the supermarket waiting for cleaning products or bread to come on sale ‘so I know I’ve got a bargain.’ The highlights of my day are washing my daughter’s clothes and answering questions in Newborn and Baby. Um, and I am deadly serious.
Before I had Alissa, I would be catching up with friends, going shopping, getting my hair done or just doing something for ME. Now, I can’t go out to lunch because Alissa will cry, nothing fits me when I go shopping so there’s no point, and I don’t have the time or motivation to do anything for ME.
Oh well, comes with the job description I suppose =]
